March 1917 - serves in the Latvian Strelnieki Reserve group
Promoted to communications officer of the 1st Daugavgrivas Strelnieki
End of 1917 - Released from the military due to illness.
1921 - Awarded the Order of Lacplesis
January 1919 - Returns to Latvia
1919 - involved in organizing Latvian partisans in the Talsis and Tukums region.
Arrested and sent to Riga for trial. En route, he overpowers his guard and escapes.
March 26, 1919 - Joins the Latvian military After taking part in the
uprising in Liepaja, he makes his way to norther Vidzeme where he is assigned
to the 5th Cesis infantry, reconnaissance cavalry unit.
Participates in the Cesis battles and is captured by the germans, where
he remains until the peace treaty between the latvians and the germans.
Returns to the 5th Cesis unit, where he organizes a bicycle recon unit,
which was in action in the battle vs. Bermont-Avalov.
Captures an armoured car from the enemy, which later became part of the
Latvian military equipment and was named "Talivaldis".
November 13, 1919 - distinguishes himself in action. He leads his
unit against a superior enemy force, took their position, captured three
machine guns, horses, carriages, military supplies and took prisoners. This
action was noted in his Lacplesis Order citation.
February 5, 1920 - promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
1920 - transferred to the Aviation Division
July 20, 1920 - the first Aviation Festival in Spilve, and
to promote the event Staprans writes
an article about latvian aviation for "Jaunakas Zinas" (Latest News).
August 21, 1920 - makes his first solo flight (a member of the first graduating
aviation class, he received pilot training from J.Prieditis)
Graduated from flight school (pilot)
November 23, 1920 - one of the founders of the first Latvian Aeroclub.
January 1921 - released from the military
Wrote his war memoir "Caur Krievijas tumsu pie Latvijas Saules" (translated: Through
the Russian darkness to the Lavtvian sun)
1929 - emigrates to South America. Initially visits the Latvian communities
in Brazil, but ultimately settles in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Spends the rest of his life as a journalist.
September 25, 1951 - died, in Argentina
