NOTES

• A 1929 design, the Gurnard was capable of being flown as either a landplane or on floats, and was actually designed with shipboard deployment in mind. It lost out to the Hawker Osprey in a British contract competition, and as a result only two prototypes were produced.
• In 1933 and 1934 senior Latvian aviation officials had travelled to Britain to consider various aircraft designs for purchase by the Naval Aviation Section. These included the Vickers Vildebeest, Blackburn B6, Short Gurnard and Fairey Seal. At a meeting on June 13, 1934 the Fairey Seal was selected.
